About Claire
Claire Haas began organizing in 2006 in Oakland, California. She was one of the last ACORN organizers and a founding organizer at ACCE in California. She organized on the front lines of the foreclosure crisis supporting homeowners and renters to fight back against the banks and to save their homes. Her neighborhood organizing in this time led to the formation of the Oakland Community Land Trust. She has worked in labor and community coalitions, especially as part of the Revive Oakland coaltion that led to the groundbreaking Community Jobs Agreement for the redevelopment of the Oakland Army Base, which founded the West Oakland Jobs Resource Center and that has led to many good jobs for local residents. She has also organized around disability and anti-ableism, healthcare, education, and other neighborhood and community issues. She has trained many organizers and community members on nuts and bolts organizing skills and has significant experience in anti-corporate campaigning. She is currently studying Culture and Communications at the University of Lisbon and is a certified coach that supports movement leaders.
